Mid State Orthopaedic & Sports Medicine Center Breaks Ground on New Ambulatory Surgery Center in Alexandria

State-of-the-art facility set to open August 2026, expanding access to high-quality orthopedic care in Central Louisiana

Alexandria, LA – March 25 – Mid State Orthopaedic & Sports Medicine Center, the leading orthopedic practice in Central Louisiana, today marked a major milestone with the groundbreaking of its new ambulatory surgery center (ASC), scheduled to open in August 2026. Strategically located adjacent to the flagship facility in Alexandria, this cutting-edge center is designed to improve patient flow and expand appointment availability—ensuring that high-quality orthopedic care is delivered closer to home.

The new ASC will feature eight modern operating rooms—including two that serve as procedure rooms—with integrated advanced technology such as robotic-assisted systems (including MAKO) and state-of-the-art C-arm imaging. An in-house MRI and X-ray suite will replace the current trailer setup, significantly enhancing diagnostic access. Additionally, the facility will incorporate two clinic halls to address current capacity challenges, allowing more patients to receive timely care.

A key advantage of this new ASC is its cost-efficiency for patients. Offering same-day joint replacement procedures locally means that residents can avoid the higher expenses typically associated with hospital settings—a welcome benefit for families seeking quality care without long-distance travel.

This project also reinforces Mid State’s commitment to expanding access to world-class orthopedic services. The recent addition of a fellowship-trained total joint surgeon further demonstrates the center’s ongoing efforts to attract top-tier talent, with plans for additional recruitment to meet the growing needs of the community.

Moreover, the new facility is a boon for the local economy. The project is being executed by local contractors and architects and is expected to create approximately 30 new jobs, further solidifying Central Louisiana’s reputation as a hub for advanced medical care.

“Today’s groundbreaking is a significant win for Central Louisiana,” said Scott Coleman, CEO of Mid State Orthopaedic. “This new ASC will streamline care delivery, expand our service capacity, and provide patients with access to advanced, cost-efficient orthopedic procedures right here in Alexandria.”

“Investing in this facility means that more residents will have timely access to high-caliber orthopedic care,” added Michael J. Leddy III, MD, a senior orthopedic surgeon at Mid State Orthopaedic. “It’s a tremendous advancement for our community, ensuring that patients receive the very best treatments without having to look elsewhere.”

Mid State Orthopaedic & Sports Medicine Center remains dedicated to enhancing the quality and accessibility of orthopedic care throughout Central Louisiana, setting a new standard for excellence in the region.
